Hi. My name is Alietta Pretorius. I am trying to find information with regards to my mother's side of the family. Her maiden name was Bath and all that I have with regards to her parents are the initials. A.E. and A.C. Bath. They had 10 children. My mother's name was Elsie and she got married at the age of 17 to Allan Burton. After his death she met and married my father, Cornelius Hendrik Beyers Fourie Pretorius. I have managed to trace most of my father's side of the family right back to the 1800's.

I'm trying to follow the genealogical trail of my ancestors. I think I've traced the first South African to John McLachlan, a Moodie Settler who arrived in 1817. :)

Thanks to the wonders of our age, I'm able to do this from Japan, where I work and live at the moment.

I've traced my ancestory, as my direct ancestory said we were from Birmingham, England then hit a wall...they disappeared. But then I thought....hmm....they might have worked in Birmingham, but they were from elsewhere originally...Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England...looking in a different direction...then they were shipped off to South Africa...one of the children returned to England, then sailed to Canada, and then I have the tree from there.

I have not had time to go through your Site thoroughly but was pleased to see that Robert Dickason is listed as the 1820 Settler of whom I am a Descendant. I do, in fact, have a 'soft copy' of a Family Tree that was drawn up some 45 Years ago, please contact me if you wish to have any further Information.

I am trying to find my great, great grandfather's details as an emigrant from Scotland to South Africa. My research so far indicates that he and his family could have been part of the "Aided Emigration to South Africa" around 1859. I believe that they may have arrived on the "S.S. The Bride." Would you have these passenger lists?
He was Robert Brown and his wife was Margaret. They had 2 or 3 children with them. He was a blacksmith and died within 2 years of arrival.
Regards
